Transferring Landline to a new account holder

I am terminating my verizon fios account soon and my brother who is living in the same apartment is going to open up a brand new account under his name.

Can I transfer my current landline phone number to his new account instead of obtaining a new phone number?

Yes.  Although sometimes can be tricky and take time.  Essentially you open the new service first specifying transfer phone number.
