Voice messages - Digital Voice

I get the emails saying i have a voice mail and I know that there is a slight delay seeing the message in Fios Digital Voice. I can live with that, but then i try to play the message in IE because i need download other program for Google Chrome to work and then in IE, i get some security message so i think i would rather just call my phone and retrieve it the old way.

So how do we do this the old way?  call my phone number and then what are the following steps to get to the voice mail.  I wish voice mail would go away so everything would just be sent to my cell phone.
