Voicemail indicator on but no voicemail

The indicator light for voicemail on my home phone will not shut off.  I do not have any messages in my voicemail inbox, it is completely empty.  Anyone know how to fix this problem?  Thanks.

No, I don't have the digital voice.  I have the standard mailbox with the Verizon Freedom Essentials package.  Thanks.

Do you currently have any messages saved on the voicemail server or have they all been deleted?

They have all been deleted.

Try logging into the voicemail system and then (instead of just hanging up) hit the * key on the phone to fully exit out of the VM system.  You can then hang up and see if that clears the visual MWI (message waiting indicator).

I just tried it twice to be certain and that did not clear it out.
