Why is my Verizon number is a local long distance (toll) number when I ported it over?

I had my number ported to Verizon. I live in Las Vegas and we have a 702 area code here.

When friends try and call me from landlines that do not have long distance enabled they cannot connect. After some research I found out my number is showing as an Indian Springs number (a town 20 miles north of Vegas) and that it's showing as a "local long distance" or "toll" number even though the area code is the same.

This is rare for Las Vegas as we all use 702 across the city including Henderson and Boulder City.

When my number was ported over why didn't it make it a local number? How can I overcome this? Does Verizon have to change the call routing in their system?

I do not want to change my number.
