Will my Verizon copper phone service still work after I port the number away from Verizon?

Hi, I am trying to time the porting of our Verizon landlilne phone number to Ooma.  I want to allow enough time so that by the time we move the number will have been ported away from Verizon.  My question, what happens to my Verizon copper phone service after the number has been ported?  Will it still work?  I understand that once the number is ported away from my Verizon copper service to Ooma that I will no longer have that phone number associated with my Verizon account.  I just want to know if the Verizon phone will still have a dial tone and if I will be able to make calls from the Verizon line.  Thank you!

Technical as long as you have service, you should have dial tone.  eventually they will realize there is no number and disconnect service. Might happen when porting completes. Outgoing calls may still show as your number, but people will not be able to call you.
