assistance with unwanted soliciatation calls after I am on DoNot Call

Hi Verizon,

I am receiving on my home verizon phone numbers calls from a recording that is saying that I am eligible for a device that helps if I have fallen and it will be sent free. Yet I have not requested and do not want the calls. Furthermore I believe they are phishing and likely a fraud scam to take advantage of elderly.

it is not even a person rather a recording as I have tried to speak to the voice/ recording and while it sounds like a person it is really a machine.

Does Verizon have a public service beyond do not call for folks who have verizon home lines to register and work with the FTC to stop solicitation of this type ?

thanks

Unfortunately Verizon does not have anything more effective than the national "Do Not Call" system.  As I'm sure you've already determined, the national system leaves a bit to be desired, and many folks still get more unwanted calls than they might like.

Verizon offers a call block feature for certain  telephone services, but it's limited to 10 numbers and there are many unwanted calls it cannot block.  If unwanted calls are a real problem for you, there are many after-market devices and software offerings that may help.  Perhaps you can go this route.  Good luck.

Armond is right but there are other simpler ways of stopping unwanted calls in the meantime.  I sometimes pick up when I get a call like that and if I'm speaking to a person, I cut that person off after finding out what this is about and tell that person to put me on their "do not call list".  Once you make that request by mentioning the "do not call list", there is nothing they can do and I'll guarantee you that that company will never bother you again.  When I can't pick up or don't want to pick up, I call the phone number back and oftentimes, there will be a prompt that I can follow to request that I put on the company's "do not call list".  Or if I speak to someone, I make the same request.

And if you get someone really persistent who still won't take "no" for an answer, you can tell that person that you will report the matter to the state attorney general if they don't stop calling you.

I think it's sad and so often, it's just a computer making these automated calls so that not even a voice mail message is left.  But if you try my suggestions, they do work.  If you pick up and get a recording, try dialing zero for the operator or better yet, call the phone number back and nip it in the bud that way.

My 85yr old Mom has been getting 5 of these a day.  She has caller ID so just doesn't answer them now.  Our local news did a story about this.  Hopefully someone can get it to stop.  Mary
