Today a local sheriff came to our house because of a 911 call originating from our home phone number. He said all that was heard was static. And in fact our land line is out of order, with only static on the line. This has also happened to us three times in the past as well, including one time in the middle of the night, when we were awakened by a state police officer pounding on our door and asking if everyone was okay and what was the emergency. Verizon does not provide any mechanism for reporting this type of problem when I call the 800 Verizon support number. How can I communicate to Verizon that this is a repeated problem on our phone line that needs to be dealt with? The law enforcement officers who have come to our house have been polite, but clearly this is very frustrating to them. It is a waste of their time when they could be doing valuable work to serve the community.
This issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent.
