had my number changed close to a year ago but when I call someone the caller id on the phone of the person I am calling states the name of the people that used to have my number and that is causing problems - on top of the fact that I am getting numerous calls from collection agencies for these people - I am not happy that I was given a number that was a recent disconnect .
would love to know how to get my caller id to show my name and not the previous people's name as it is hindering my efforts to stop these collection calls this is ridiculous.

I would like to know how to block unknown numbers into my hoe. My daughter is fearful of these types of call due to a negative experience. Can you assist?
I gotta ask, how is that a 'solution?' Can't you provide a link to let others know how to request Caller ID be activated on a home line? I've searched high and low on this site and, for the life of me, I can't find anything on how to unblock outgoing Caller ID. No shortage of offers of new widgets and re-designing my home page, but minor annoyances don't seem to merit your attention.
Same here. Just had my phone/internet/tv installed yesterday and all is good, but disappointing that that the caller ID would not be set up properly. Seems like it should be a standard no-brainer. Mine shows the name of a real estate investment firm! I've been on hold for over 20 minutes trying to get customer service by phone, to no avail. The first time I was dropped after 15 minutes - now I'm at 13 minutes on my second attempt...
....and on my third attempt, the representative who finally picked up said he would transfer me to tech support - and promptly disconnected me. And on my fourth attempt, the representative who answered said he needed to transfer me to Verizon FiOS - even though that was the number I had dialed. I explained my problem to the FiOS representative, and he seemed completely stumped. Then I waited 21 more minutes, most of the time on hold as he was apparently trying to figure out how to resolve the issue or to confirm how my caller ID information was entered in my account. So - 50+ minutes in total down the drain so far. And the answer: Verizon has my proper caller ID info in its system - apparently the new account info gets transferred to a central database from which other phone companies periodically pull data in order to update the caller ID's associated with outside callers calling their customers. He said these updates could happen "once a week" or "once every three months" depending on the company. If I"m calling another Verizon customer it should display correctly from day 1, but other providers will update their info in time. So I'll have to wait and see.
I've had this same problem for the entire year I've had FIOS. At one point it was showing someone else's name. After a number of attempts that was finally fixed but now it just says "Customer" or something like that. I've kind of given up.
I have a similar problem with the name that shows on the phone/display of people I call. It is not my name and I have started receiving advertisements addressed to this person via regular mail which leads me to believe Verizon is selling their customer's information to telemarketing agencies!!!!!!! I opened an incident with Verizon and they said it would be fixed almost 2 months ago. How can I get this taken care of?!?!?!
I have the same problem with my phone for more than a year now. I've asked to fix this and cannot get it done!
The problem is with other providers e.g. Comcast subscribers see my ID incorrectly. Please advise
