changing/choosing custom landline telephone number?

hello, just started fios digital voice service, was given a telephone number with numbers that don't spell out anything on the keypad, and are not particularly noteworthy. so, I would like to be able to switch to another number. obviously, many of the numbers I desire are already taken, but.....1) is it possible to change to a new number? 2) if so, how? 3) is there a listing of numbers one could choose from? 4) is there a way to be alerted if a certain number becomes available?
