need new jack

My basement was totally redone months ago. Now realize we need a telephone jack for the fax machine. We also have FIOS backup installed in the basement. How can I figure out if there still is a live line in the basement and do we need Verizon to come to the house to install the jack. Contacting the original contractor is not an option.

You need to have the IW (inside Wire) run from the jack where the fax is located to either another working jack already connected to Fios or to the ONT (Optical Network Terminal). You may do it or yourself or hire someone else. You can hire Verizon to do it for you too.
