"Forwarding" voicemail messages

Verizon indicates that one can "forward" a voicemail message to an email address. I have attempted this twice and the messages never arrived. (Yes, I checked the spam folder.) Has anyone been successful in forwarding email messages? Is it possible to download a voicemail message?

From you landline or cell phone? I never heard of doing it from a landline.
