I recently have been having an issue with the 8800. Never moved location but all this month it has been “searching” for signal … in an attempt to diagnose we change one variable at time … we have discovered that as soon as the “fully charge” lighted message comes on we lose internet! It then requires us to unplug the charging cord before it can find internet again. Also connected us that we recall having an update about 30 days ago… hmmmmm? What’s up ?

Happy Monday! Being on top of your service is crucial, especially if you are encountering signal issues. Verizon is here to help.
What recent changes have you made? Aside from the signal search, any other problems? What is the zip code of the problem location?

Hi, if you're leaving your Jetpack 8800 plugged in constantly (?) - it's possible that the battery became overcharged and that's messing with the device. It's the same reason why some phones have a feature to prevent the battery from being charged over 85% because regularly overcharging the battery actually ruins it.

Thank you for the response. I still believe it’s a result of the update because the device is in the same position same place same charging cord, and same charging process that it has been in for two years. Only after the update did this start to manifest itself. It has never overheated in the two years and it’s not overheating now either . We first thought it was usage and so we’ve upped the gigabytes twice and cannot return to our previous cost structure. We are to a point where we’re considering dropping the entire services and phones since Verizon will not allow us to return to the same cross structure and previous updates. Anyway, again thank you for caring to respond, it’s more than Verizon has done.

Let's make sure that the issue is with the actual device and not the battery. We actually recommend troubleshooting by following our troubleshooting assistant you can find here: https://www.verizon.com/digital/nsa/nos/ui/troubleshooting/acss/verizon-jetpack-mifi-8800l#/ There's an option for "Searching for service" that will come in handy. Please make sure you log into your My Verizon account so the troubleshooting is saved.
Since the issues happen when the Jetpack is fully charged, I recommend performing the troubleshooting when it's fully charged and you're experiencing the issue. Please keep us posted so we can make sure you find a solution!

A persistently overcharged battery doesn't necessarily overheat. It's something about the lithium ion batteries just not working properly and potentially messing with device function after having been overcharged for some period of time. My now-gone ancient landline phone used to always get wonky after 2 or 3 years with developing loud noises on calls and I finally learned it was because I constantly kept the handset in the charging cradle which was always overcharging the battery and ruining the battery. After learning about this, I then kept the handset off the charger and let the battery run down before recharging it and taking it off the charger when it was fully charged, and the phone and battery ran great for several more years without needing to change the battery every 2 years until I disconnected my landline.
