The recent November software update to the Jetpack (not the computer) broke USB tethering. The computer is a Macbook Pro, OSx Sierra. Tethering worked fine before update, broken after. Looking in 'about this mac-usb' shows the MiFi hardware is connected by USB but not seen by networking. Work security requires that I use USB tethering, not WiFi.

As with any firmware update, perform a factory reset and then manually configure the device to your liking. Verizon has posted information about new features in the update, perhaps a clue to the problem is here:

Also, verify the USB setting hasn't turned off USB Tethering.

Thanks 7e18n1, but I have already done that. Reset, checked configurations, recycled the power, read the manual and the update, re-disabled Apple's "System Integrity Protection" "Feature" that blocks USB access to root, tried another Mac, nothing has worked. The device is visible to the hardware as a connected USB device, but is not visible to the operating system or networking software. It works fine as a WiFi hotspot, but if that is all it is it is worthless to me. I need tethering to work. (Getting tired of being an Apple and Verizon alpha tester)

That doesn't sound good. I'd call Customer Service (800) 922-0204 so Verizon is aware of the problem. Good Luck!

Did this get fixed? What happened? I have the same problem. I've had the Jetpack for under a week. When I first got it Tethering worked fine on my MBP w/ macOS Sierra. I installed the update on the JetPack and now tethering does not work. Please help, I need tethering to work. If there is no work around then I have to return the device and cancel service ASAP.

BRIWAL86, let’s make sure that your Jetpack works like you need it to. We don’t want you to return your device. What happens when you try to tether your Jetpack? What model Jetpack do you have? Are you able to test the connection on any other computer?

My main computer is a MacBook Pro. Jetpack is a AC791L. Received it last week. Out of the box, tethering worked fine. After update, the MacBook does not recognize the Jetpack. Plug it into the USB port and nothing happens.
I tried it this evening on a Windows 10 laptop and it worked. I'll try it on another Mac tomorrow. It seems the update broke tethering on the Mac only. I hope this can be fixed simply.

Tested on two other Macs today running macOS Sierra. Same result, no tethering. Plug the Jetpack in and nothing happens. Open system preferences and there is no tethering device as there should be. Please help. I'll work on this till the end-of-the week before returning the Jetpack for a refund.

Oh no! Sorry to learn of the issue with the jet pack. By any chance have you tried a complete reset on the hot spot. This link will give you details on how to do so: http://vz.to/2lltgn9

Yes, tried that. It did not work.
