How do I put a pdf file's icon on the desktop? I have it stored in Downloads.

You will need to download a third party file explorer from the Play Store. I used ES File Explorer to verify this works. The steps from the ES File Explorer. Open the file explorer and navigate to the folder where the file is located. Long press the file to highlight the file. Open the menu button (three vertical dots) and scroll to the top of the list of options. Select add to desktop.
