Thank you everyone for your extensive feedback on this issue. Blitz313, it appears you have done all you can as far as troubleshooting is concerned. At this point, we would need to speak to you directly, and file a Trouble Ticket to get our Network Repair Bureau involved. Please PM me with a number where you can be reached, and I will be happy to contact you to begin this process. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thanks,

Define what you mean by disconnect...   Are you talking about the WiFi signal dropping, getting disconnects (resets while browsing using it), or is the 3G/4G signal dropping.

The 3G/4G signal. Wifi hasn't been a problem, I can still access the admin page when the signal drops off.

I am widening if I am just in a bad location, even thought I am in the same location as yesterday. Is there a way to tell what the signal strength is?

The lights are not very useful for that.

Even the bars (or boxes) on the Admin page near the top is vague... however

you can go to Configuration -> Diagnostics and then select Modem Details and it will output a bunch of lines.

It will look something like below with the Signal for EVDO and LTE being what you are looking for.

MDN: +CENSORED
ESN (hex): CENSORED
Channel: 0
P_REV Indicator: 0
PRL ID: 15010
Band Class Type: 13
ERI Version: 5
Dormancy: FALSE
Signal - EVDO: 0
Signal - LTE: 98
Battery Level: 85
Battery Charging: 1

Have you tried changing the "Power" setting to never go dormant?  It is preset to go dormant after 30 mins of inactivity.  Located under Configurations tab on admin site.

Yes - I've tried various settings.  That was one of the first items I had thought was the culprit.  Didn't seem to have much affect at the time.  So far today I haven't changed any of the settings from yesterday and today it has been fairly stable.  I had noticed too having issue when using the b/g/n setting versus just b/g where web-traffic was not coming through however I was still receiving e-mail and instant messaging traffic.  Switched it back to b/g and haven't had any issues since.

There is a firmware update now available for the device from Samsung, it will reset all the settings to factory default after, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY:

Thank you for the news and link.  I am still within my 14 day trial period and was ready to return the hotspot today.  I'm going to give it the rest of today and tomorrow and see what happens.  Tethering to iPhone is more reliable and consistent than this hotspot, albeit slower.

I've been using the updated firmware for about 2 hours.  Not better.  I also went to just "b/g" as compared to "b/g/n" for WiFi and it did not help either.  Yesterday Adium and Mail.app were both alerting me to connectivity issues.  Those same alerts are still happening with the update firmware.

Time to return this device and get my money back.  I choose to have consistent and solid connectivity that is slower over faster but does not work reliably connectivity.  I can not have my ssh sessions interrupted like this.

I got mine 3 days ago and I am constantly losing my wifi signal.  No light, no signal.  I see the 3G or 4G light, but no wifi and my computer does not see the hotspot at that point.  The only way I can clear it is to pull the battery.

Someone else in another thread said they have seen his in busy hotspot areas.  I believe that may be an issue with mine, but mine also seems to work, in an area, but after timeout, or after powering off and back on, the device again has no wifi signal.

I have the Wifi issue as well.

The symptom is that no blue wifi light, and no SID being broadcast.  I have this problem whenever I'm in a hotel or airport where there are many available wifi networks.   The Samsung seems to just refuse to transmit in locations where there are many different networks lit up.  So, pretty much, this device doesn't work in all the places I need it to work - airports and hotels!

I took it into the Verizon store, and they verified that the device worked per their specfications, and told me that they had no issues reported AT ALL with the Samsung host spot.  They refused to let me swap the device with the MiFi because I purchased it 17 days ago.  This is particularly annoying since I thougth Verizon had a 30 day trial period, so I was willing to wait for the new firmware.  I was surprised to learn they'd shortened it to 14 days.

I'm hosed now.  The device doesn't work, and Verizon won't stand behind it, and I'm locked into  a data capped contract for two years.

I have the exact same issue at my work.  Cannot connect to the device with either my Droid X or Archos 101 tablet. One runs Froyo and the other runs Gingerbread.   Device works great at home, at the gym and even in my car.

Spoke to my buddy who is a Level 2 wireless tech for AT&T, not the mobile division, and he mentioned they might have a wifi hotspot de-authentication system which can keep mobile hotspots from functioning.  Was not the case.  I can setup my DX as a mobile WIFI hotspot and connect to it just fine so that obviously is not the cause.

If you have found a solution please reply back.  I am going to call them tomorrow and see about exchanging the device for the other 4G version they have out.  Have had it for over 30 days but will reference your post and any others I find.  Hopefully they don't play hardball but I expect they will.

Here's what I've tried...

New firmware installed

Changed settings

   WEP 64

   b/g/n

Turned off all devices so that my Mac is the only one using the device.

Still dropping my Cisco VPN connection to work every 2 - 30 minutes.  😞

Running VPN client 4.9.01

Same problem here, I'm located in Miami FL. I also have a Pantech UML290 and it works better (still has some problems but I can live with them).

Does your 4G light stay green or is it going red? Mine stays green but I lose internet of any kind, very annoying!

Thanks to the community members for your input. Adding to what was stated, perhaps you can try a battery pull on the Droid X, followed by checking the data enabled feature to check and make sure your 3G data is enabled.  Also try doing a *228 and selecting prompt 2 is as a good option on your Droid X. You can also use a reference at the support.vzw.com website where most of our knowledge base articles are viewable to assist with trying to resolve issues.
