I currently ;have a prepaid phone that will expire soon; before I renew the plan is there a way I can change the phone number so the area code is current to where I have moved? I don't want to get a new phone just get an updated number with the area code for where I've moved.

Just call prepaid Customer Service at 1-888-294-6804 and they can do that for you. And also will switch over your account balance to the new number. I would suggest making a list of all info on the phone before the switch.

The switch even if I'm keeping my phone may cause me to lose saved stuff on it?

Unless you have an SD card or some packup on the phone yes you will lose the contracts and some info. I just switched phones and kept the same number and had to reenter my contacts. You can not lose your info but just in case its always better to have the info backed up

Two words: BACKUP ASSISTANT! (Backup assistant will only save contact information, though...no pictures or videos or anything else.)
