Why can't I send an international text?

I have been trying to text friends in Europe but nothing is going through. I have free texting on the phone but...what am I doing wrong?

Are you using the format + country_code number ?

make sure you omit leading zero. 

have them text you and save the number.

Keeping in contact with your friends that are abroad is everything. It's important that we find out what's happening. Are you able to receive texts from your friends? What happens when you try sending them a text? Any error messages?
