I've tried searching for an answer to my problem and haven't quite found an answer that has solved this issue.
When my Back Up Assistant syncs contacts, it only syncs 37 of my 115 contacts. I tried seeing if the rest of my contacts were saved via my Gmail account and the same contacts synced to BUA are synced in Gmail, so a good portion of my contacts aren't accounted for in some sort of backup application. How can I make it to where BUA will back up all contacts not saved under a Gmail account? Also, is there a way to edit where a contact is saved? I know when creating a new contact I am prompted as to where I'd like to save the contact and I typically just choose a random one because I wasn't sure where most of my contacts were being saved. Now, since I have many contacts unaccounted for I'd like to ensure that all of my contacts are in a safe place. Another question real quick (sorry!) -- I set up a Hotmail restore account in my Verizonwireless account... am I supposed to be able to see my phone contacts like I can in Gmail? Is it actually necessary for me to have set up that restore account if I've already got a gmail account to sync contacts to?
The other part of my problem is that recently BUA has been syncing on a nightly basis and I wake up to the screen identifying the contacts synced, how many pending, and last sync. I cannot figure out how to turn this feature off -- I'd prefer it if BUA synced maybe once or twice a month instead of nightly. This didn't use to happen. Other occasions that screen will pop up multiple times a day and I find it a little annoying. Is there a way to adjust the settings on that?
I apologize for all of the questions -- I realized I had more than just one while typing this up. I'd REALLY appreciate some help because I find this whole situation a bit unnerving knowing that all of my contacts aren't saved somewhere. Thanks!
You cannot make BUA backup ALL of your contacts. This has been one of the problems with BUA since it was put out years ago. BUA will only sync the contacts it thinks you want to save and it does a very poor job of that as well. It will cut off Addresses, switch numbers with other contacts, if your contact has more then one phone number it will cut off all but 1 (in some cases) or mix the numbers up between them. I would stick with Google (gmail) as it will backup your contacts easily, accurately and complete.
Okay, so then with that in mind, how do I go through my contacts and change where they're saved? I tried editing a few contacts and it won't let me change which email account they're saved through?
I never had this sort of problem with BUA before. It always saved everything. Guess things have changed.
What phone are you using?
On my phone it is:
Open People
Click on the menu button
Settings
Contact Storage
Contact Storage Account
OK
Same set up in my phone, motorola razr. So even though BUA is originally selected it doesn't back up all contacts? Interesting. Well I changed it to Google, thanks!
After changing it to Google, how do I resync them to Google? Sorry, it's just been a long time since I've done it through Google.
They should sync automatically every so often or you can go to:
Settings > Accounts > Google > Sync all
or touch the Google account that you have your contacts sync'd with and then touch "Sync now"
Thanks! I checked and it last synced this morning but my Gmail account still only shows the contacts from before.. so no new contacts had been synced over there even though I changed my settings to have all contacts stored over there. I'm not sure why this isn't working.
Hi LiverpoolGlasgow,
Oh my! Making sure your contacts are backed up to Gmail is important. Typically this issue occurs when adding contacts to the device, and selecting to add the contact "to the device" instead of Gmail. You import the contacts into Gmail by creating a .csv file http://vz.to/Htl0KJ
