How do I stop duplicate text messages?

I recently traveled a couple hours from home, driving in and out of coverage, and since then all of my incoming text messages come in duplicate. How do I stop the duplicates?

Reset the phone or Power off and remove SIM, reinsert and power back on.  Might need a network refresh.
