Motorola backup battery - output ports

It is assumed that the output of the backup battery will be the RED usb wire wrapped around the battery pack.  Can the standard USB 2.0 port be used as an output?  I would like to power a small LED lamp that has the standard USB port.  I could use a mini-USB to standard USB 2.0 converter, but not sure if that will transfer power to a small LED lamp that has a plug for the USB 2.0.
