You sure it was reset vs. the phone being in safe mode? While in safe mode the device will load the bare minimum to run.

So sorry to hear she has lost all her contacts like that. Sounds like you are saying the device completed a factory reset on it's own. Is that right? I'm afraid unless the contacts and media were backed up somewhere prior to this happening they would be gone. Let's prevent that from occurring in the future and protect your contacts and media!
