turbo disappearing text

I have a droid turbo and there are times that when I am texting someone and then disappears....if i know who it is and I text them back it will show up with the thread if not then it doesn't

also my phone will show that i have a message but i can not see it.  it's hidden or something.  have tried a restart and software is up to date
