I'm pretty sure this is an issue, but just checking. I got a text from a 443 area code phone number that said:
VERIZON WIRELESS MSG::
This is your authentication code to confirm your request to ADD A LINE to your account. (gives an 8-digit number) No one should call you for this code. If you didn't request this code we recommend calling My Verizon Support center at 1-865-XXX-XXXX IMMEDIATELY to stop any charges on your account. Thank you
Obviously I'm not calling the phone number, but was just wondering if this was a new issue or where I should report it.
Issue still cotinues- I've received the same text message. I blocked number. I really wanted to call the number just to annoy them but it makes my number viewable to that world and I already get enough calls from the creeps.
I too would be concerned if I was receiving a similar text message about an authentication code and to call a number, always-somethin. This is certainly a phishing text message, and I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We want to help prevent these Issues and help make them stop. You can always forward these text messages to SPAM (7726) so that we can investigate these messages.
To clarify, you did not call the number provided nor provide them with any details, correct?

I received the same text and assumed that it was Verizon. I called questioning why Verizon was wanting to add a line without a request. They asked for my PIN to decline the offer. I did and it confirmed my decline but I wanted to ask a question so I held on for Customer Support. They made me wait 9 minutes then hung up on me. I immediately called the real Verizon Customer Support and learned that I had been scammed. I immediately changed my PIN. Feeling like a real Dork because I know better and let myself get sloppy. Lessons Learned:
1. First give away: Verizon wanted to add a line without a request.
2. Second give away: Verizon Texts are not from a phone #. This was.
3. Third give away: Disconnected after the 9 min hold.
4. As a check I should have put in a bogus PIN to see if it is accepted.
5. Number on the text: 508-374-9500. Verizon My Support # referenced: 1-860-400-3312.
Of a suspicious note that I still need to check up on. My phone did an update of the operating system just prior to receiving the text.
This appears to be recent as I notice the entrys in this thread are within the last couple months. Will update should I find any more info.

This is totaly an issue. I called the number in the txt from a land line at work and it is really a bad attempt to get you to give them you pin #. Yet I could see how some people could fall for it. It has a lot of copied voice recordings strung together to make it seem like it is really from Verizon.
HI, I've received 2 texts from a Virigina area code in the past 2 months.. The first text was something about a code I'd asked for ( I didnt') and I didn't respond back to it. The second one I got today was about an issue with my bill payment (there isn't one). the URL they are using to try and get your account information is provided below. The texts are coming from 434-512-2432. the number is probably being spoofed.
According to https://www.whois.com/whois/vzwbillpayredirect.info that domain was just registered TODAY and the registrar is www.openprovider.nl in Holland.
If you suspect it is a SPAM or PHISHING URL, why in the world would you post it as an active link? You can always use the text 'dot info or dot com' for the domain extension so NOBODY can accidentally click on it and get PHISHED.

I also received this text message. I've now been on hold with customer service for nearly ten minutes waiting to report it/find out if anyone was in my account/etc. but I guess I'll just hand up and block the number. Your customer service is horrible. I had to find out about this from another CUSTOMER??? Since I didn't see any activity on my account I'll assume that this is just a total issue. Thanks for nothing.
