The only reason I got a Verizon contract was because the people at Verizon told me payments will be reported to credit bureaus. I needed to build a credit history and figured this was a good way to do it. Here I am, 3 years later, and not one payment has been reported. I have contacted Verizon a handful of times, requesting that my payment history be sent to credit bureaus. No one from Verizon seems to want to help me with it and I'm starting to get frustrated.
Does anyone know what I can do? I have 3 years of timely payments that would look great on a credit report, I'm assuming.
keep paying & your account will show 3 years of payments.
I have the same question as well it’s not showing that I have an open account on my credit report but I only have a phone in my name that could possibly build credit but my credit score is building in the positive yet I did have a random thing saying that I had $90 that whent to collections from them but had that removed easy it is weird though
Opening up the Verizon account shows up as a credit inquiry. Having account go into collections also counts, in a negative way of course.
To build credit use a credit card. On time payments on those is how you build it up.
Verizon does not report timely payments to the credit bureaus, the only time you will see Verizon reporting to the bureaus is if you are so late on your payments that the account has been closed.
An article form 2009 states: “We report only charged-off or written-off accounts,” says Verizon spokeswoman Nancy Stark. “We don’t report positive or negative account activity.” She says that’s because certain parts of Verizon’s business are governed by state laws that prevent them from reporting active account information. So, for simplicity’s sake, Verizon opted to apply that same standard consistently across its entire business — including its cellphone division.
If you are wanting to build credit, look into a obtaining secure credit card through your bank or try applying for a non secure credit card; that is the best and fastest way to start building credit.
