I'm finding it really difficult to get a straight answer about this.
Do trade-in credits that are applied over the course of 24-30 months still apply even if I buy a new phone before the 24 or 30 months are up? Whether I buy next year's iPhone directly unlocked and paid in full through Apple, or if I buy the phone paid in full through Verizon and just move the sim from my old phone into the new phone, will my trade-in credits get cancelled out?
Asking because I like to buy a new phone every year, but when I go to buy next year's new iPhone, I will only be 12 months into a 24 month trade-in credit cycle, and I want to make sure I won't be forfieiting the trade-in credits. If that would be the case, I'd rather just sell my trade-in on ebay myself, and avoid the whole trade-in credit process.
Honestly, you would be better off avoiding the trade-in process all together. Just look at the various threads in the VZW community asking why their trade-in value isn't the same as what they were quoted or asking what happens if VZW claims the phone wasn't received.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I sort of agree, with the caveat that we don't know the proportion of tradeins that go bad as we only hear about those (I didn't post at the time "My trade in process worked seamlessly" even though it did!) But there certainly seem a lot here, and resolution, if it occurs, takes a lot of time and work.
Just compared to T-mobile forum. There are a few complaints about tradeins not being honored, but much less than here. Much more complaints about terrible customer service!
Hello there. We know it's important to know how trade-in credits work. If you were to upgrade early, you would forfeit the remaining credits for the promotion. They do not transfer over. *Rebecca
I’m not asking about an “upgrade”, I’m asking about if I buy the phone separately through Apple or unlocked.
Thanks for getting back to us jmthomp07. It depends on what promotion you chose. If you are getting a credit on the DPP then if you pay it off and get a new device you would lose the trade in credit. If you keep the Device Payment agreement foing, you could keep the credit. -Joe

You were right. They originally offered me $800 trade-in credit for my Pixel 5 to get the iPhone 13. After sending in the phone, they "reassessed" my phone from $240 to $235. Will be reporting them to BBB if not resolved on my first call to them. On hold for about 45 minutes so far as I type this...
