I just purchased this phone from Motorola, it is unlocked. My sim from my old phone will not work in it, however Motorola states that it should be compatible. What can I do to activate it? The phone is a Motorola one hyper.

Same thing here. dumb network not working
Checked that model and it has 2 of 5 bands Verizon uses. If you want an inexpensive Android phone, return the Moto and get a Pixel 4a. Price is similar and actually works like it should + it has more ram.
My GF got hers yesterday (unlocked model) and it activated immediately when she popped her old sim in.
