How to stop phone from placing people I call on my speed dial?

Every time I call someone who is not on my speed dial, the phone puts that someone on my speed dial. These contacts do not display the white star that are shown on contacts that I actually added to speed dial. These extra contacts are difficult to delete.  If you delete them from the speed dial screen, they invariably come back later.

That's definitely an odd behavior and we're happy to help. What model of phone are we working with? Did this recently just start or when did the phone start acting this way?

Some phones add contacts to the "favorites" list because they are frequently called even if they aren't ones you would consider your favorite people.

The phone is a Motorola Droid Maxx 2. The problem started recently probably after the last update.
