Why is my battery draining so fast since OS upgrade?

An OS upgrade (Marshmallow) was pushed to my phone on June 3. Since then, my battery dies really fast without much use at all. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S5? You can try to do a factory reset (backup your content first) but you really shouldn't have to. Some people swear by a reset post an OS update.

Ever since the 6.0.1 Marshmallow upgrade was pushed Facebook and Bluetooth became battery hogs on my S5.  Facebook may be unrelated, who knows with them, but Bluetooth never used to be a problem even though I always left it on.  You can check what is using your battery life in settings>battery and scroll down to the bottom where you will find a list of apps in order from highest to lowest battery use.  A lot of people are complaining about battery life with this update.  Hopefully the noise will be loud enough that they will be motivated to figure it out and push a fix for it.

Facebook is a terribly written application. You should try the mobile site after removing the app to see if it improves. If you keep the app disable the AutoPlay for videos.

You will see it all over various forums. There are a ton of devices running Android and over the years many claim that it helps. I don't see why that is I meantioned "you really shouldn't have to" in my original post. You don't have to "redo everything" if you use the Software Repair Assistant Tool from VZW. It backs up the device and restores content and settings it.

Did you check with Samsung to see what they recommend?

I too have had serious battery drainage since updating to Marshmallow.  I tried @VZWSupport advice - Wiped Cache Partition and all, but it is still draining.  Last night there was another Android update, for security. I put in a fresh battery at midnight, and now, 13 1/2 hrs later, it's at 33%.  I have been on my home Wifi the whole time, no videos or music.  For the last 3 weeks, i haven't been able to go longer than 15 or 16 hrs before hitting 15%.
