Question Re Picture & Video Messaging (PIX Place)

Ok, so I have the LG Accolade (i.e., no micro SD card) on the Prepaid Core plan, and have been trying to access the original picture files I have taken at their maximum 1.3 MP resolution (1280 x 960 pixels).

In an earlier thread, it was suggested to me that I try uploading the photo(s) in question to Verizon's PIX Place (Picture & Video Messaging).  From my phone, I chose [Send] To Online Album (which cost the standard 25¢ MMS fee deducted from airtime), read & agreed with the online TOS, etc., and logged in.

I saw the photo icon in the "My Media" folder, but when I clicked the VIew Larger link, this was all I got (image below is reproduced here at original size as it displayed on the webpage).... What does, "The original uploaded image size and resolution are preserved in your account" mean? Where is this "online account," and how can I preview/download it to my PC?

I'd like to be able to display some of these photos in our (mid-sized) digital photo frame here at home (for starters).  Surely these tiny little (426 x 320) pixel images are not all the 1.3 MP camera phones are capable of producing?? :smileysad:

Have you tried going to the album online and getting the picture from there? Go to my Verizon, sign in, this is were they tell you how much your current balance is, scroll down to the bottom on the right side it says View Photo "Albums you can bring up your photo and change them from there. Hope this works for you.

Send the image to your email address from the PixPlace account - you can send up to 5 at once in an email, and there is no charge from the Pix Place account.

The photos will be full size pics original pics in the email and you can download them to your computer.

Thanks for trying, SuzyQ.  All I saw was an option to send them as a "slideshow". I tossed a sound file in, read the disclaimer ("Standard messaging rates will apply") and off it went. When receiving it in Gmail, the attachment was still a mere 41 KB with the filename "downsized_0527101715.jpg".  Same. crippled. file that I got when first uploading from my phone to "PIX Place"...  I'm really wondering now just WHERE these "original files" are that Verizon is referring to "in your account".  :smileymad:

This works for me so you can try it, I send my photo to "Hot Mail E Mail and  open the picture, then double click on picture so that there is nothing but the picture showing toward the bottom of the screen are  symbols, the one on the left has a picture of a magnify glass click on that and it will enlarge the photo after you enlarge it will ask you what you want to do with the photo,  Make Copy, Print, E Mail, Burn, click on your choice. I have not tried with with  my veriizon online account but it should work there to.  Good Luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, Minnie; but this will not work for me if it's at all dependent on Hotmail. I haven't had an active Hotmail account in years -- the last straw being when they started hounding their subscribers with annoying CAPTCHA authentication requests nearly every single time  they attempted to access their email through (Mi¢ro$oft's own) Outlook Express. Between that, the forced automatic logins of MSN/Windows Messenger chat client at every PC startup (nearly impossible to disable); and their ridiculous, intrusive "NET Passport" (Microsoft has a persistent habit of going around their rear ends to reach their elbow in much of their software and online services design/implementation), I swore I'd never go back.  Not even for Video and Picture Messaging -- sorry, Verizon.

I'm not sure what you're referring to by the "magnifying glass". What web browser are you using? I almost never use Internet Explorer, but in Firefox, if a photo file is too large to display all on the screen at once, it has a tiny little "zoom in" pointer that the viewer can click to have the image switch to display full-size.

Is this what you're talking about?  If so, that only works when the image file is larger than the browser window; and is not inherent to all web browsers as it is an optional feature which can be toggled on and off. I do realize the difference between an image thumbnail (in Gmail) and the actual attached file. When I clicked on View (same image as Download link, in Gmail), the picture was barely larger than the thumbnail, with no other options offered.

I am including a screenshot of what I received in Gmail (sans personal info.) so you can see *exactly* what Verizon sent.  Of course their Reply with a Pic Message  and Go There Now button options were not applicable at all here and wouldn't have resulted in anything different than I had already seen in their "online album". Please note also that if they had actually released (sent) the original file in the email, the filesize would be considerably larger than 41 kilobytes.

I'm not sure what Verizon feels they stand to gain by crippling their prepaid phones' camera functions in this way. :smileysad: The only options I saw were to order prints from one of two providers (including a "FujiFilm" something or other). When following these links, after several click-throughs to the provider's website, the customer had still not been presented with selection and/or pricing information.

Yes that is what I was referring to.  I'm using Internet explorer with windows 7,  another thought (and I'm just grasping at straws here) is I have enlarged photo's using my all in one printer.  The pic that you showed is exactly how mine come through, and I have enlarged them, I haven't done it for awhile so I'm going do it and go step by step to see if still works,  when I did it the last time I had XP so I don't if that makes a difference and a different cell company, I'll let you know how it comes out.  There has to be a way to beat this, we just have to find it. lol.

About the Hot Mail, I use it as my garbage e mail account. lol

Why don't you just download them onto the computer then re-size them in a photo program?  You can use a free online resizer or this free batch resizer.  It will resize a whole folder and keep originals in tact.  As far as I know the zoom function in the IE browser is just that a zoom function and not a picture resizer.    Mary

If I were able to simply "download them onto [my] computer" (i.e. at their original size), I wouldn't be posting these questions, as that is precisely what I'd wished to do in the first place. But this is what has been at issue with this phone since the proverbial Day One.

As I explained before in another earlier thread, the USB cable that came with the phone does NOTHING. When you connect it to the PC, it won't even recharge the phone (which according to the user's manual it is supposed to do without fanfare), much less access the phone memory or transfer any data.  The Hardware Wizard comes up on Windows and it asks for a *Modem* driver, which: a) the modem is not what is needed here; and b) there is no compatible driver to be found.  Seems something was said somewhere else on these forums about switching the default from Modem to USB Mass Storage; but there is no external memory card and I cannot find anything resembling this in the phone menus.

The thing about resizing digital image files is, you can make them smaller, but not larger.  Well technically you can (depending on your image editing program); but the resolution in almost all cases will be *really crappy* and it defeats the purpose.  From what I see of PicResize.com, it doesn't do anything I can't do myself (offline) using the freeware image editor from Irfanview. In fact, if you'll notice from the screenshot I've posted below, all the prefigured options are for making the photo smaller (25%, 50% and 75% of original size).  When I chose Custom (to change Verizon's 426 x 320 "downsized" version back to the original 1280 x 960 res.) all that did was to double the filesize (in kilobytes) of the uploaded image.

What I'm thinking is that Verizon has in some way deliberately crippled these phones so that the customer cannot utilize the original 1.3 MP camera images at full resolution.  If it wasn't so, seems that a VZW representative would've already responded to one of these threads and cleared things up for us, if it were designed to be easy or intuitive.  But that's not what's happening.  Despite all the unnecessary hoops we've tried jumping through so far, nothing has worked. I could be mistaken about that -- I hope I am and it's an option or setting somewhere on the camera that I have missed -- though I personally doubt it.  Either way, I am posting these things so that others will know (hopefully in advance of purchase) what the LG VX5600 phone is capable of (on Verizon's prepay service) and what it is not.  No sense having a 1.3 MP camera if all you can get from it is a tiny image less than normal VGA resolution -- the more basic Samsung U350 Smooth is capable of that! :smileymad:  As a selling point for this phone, it is 100% moot.

Ok I don't use any of that so just assumed they could be saved to the computer then re-sized larger in a photo program, sorry.   Mary
