3G phone not smart phone
Nope the ENV3 reqires the $9.99 a month data plan so it's only good for someone with a cotract that wants data on their phone. Mary!
Yes you actually can use the LG Env3 VX9200 on a prepaid plan. It is a 3G phone so you're going to have to do something with your phone.
1) Open up the flip of the phone, and enter ##program[and the model of the phone (9200)] so, you're going to enter ##77647269200.
2) Then, it's going to ask you for a service code. It's gonna show six question marks (??????) Enter all zeros for the service code.
3) When you do that, go to "Network Select" (#3), hit OK.
4) Then, select "Mode Preference" (#1), then choose the fourth one that says "1X Only".
5) Then hit the END button.
BUT!! DO NOT touch any of the other options, or you can SERIOUSLY screw up your phone.
How to activate the phone on your current prepaid mobile number
1) Dial *22898.
2) Hit SEND.
3) Select number 2.
4) Confirm.
5) Confirm again.
6) Enter your 10-digit phone number.
7) Enter your 4-digit passcode that's associated with your account.
😎 You'll hear music, that means your phone is being programmed.
9) When the recording says "Your phone as been programmed successful, thank you for calling Verizon Wireless.", press any button. Your phone will turn off, then back on. Then you're ready to use it!
This should work, if it doesn't, then I'm very, very sorry.
If you have any questions on this, reply to this.
Hoped this worked
So can you do this on other 3g phones for prepaid without needing the required data plan or just the ENV3? I know this was a post back in January where someone bought the ENV3 and tried to activate it as prepaid and verizon told them no but maybe I am remembering that post wrong. Mary
Ok this was the post I was remembering and at that time when they advertised this phone in our paper it said required nationwide calling plan but that part has probablly changed now. This post was in December before the manditory data plan and they couldn't use it then so I would be curious to see if it works now with prepaid since it requires the data plan. Mary

Verizon requires the data plan per phone model, and they identify phones that require a data plan using the ESN. Setting your phone to 1X only won't "fool" the Verizon network into thinking you're not using a 3G-capable phone, it will still recognize the handset as an enV3. Even if it does, I doubt this is allowed. Verizon has stated that handsets that require a data plan on postpaid service cannot be used with their prepaid service, and I would be amazed if they left this kind of gaping hole in that policy.

That's what I figured and I wouldn't try those settings either for fear of messing up the phone. Like I said even before the data plan requirement that other poster was not able to use it as prepaid. You can I believe use an ENV2 as prepaid though. Mary

This will take away any ability to send and receive picture messages as well - it effectively blocks data from being used on your phone, and picture messages (MMS) do use the data network (even though they count as text messages per your plan).
So, although these steps will BLOCK data from your phone and prevent unwanted or unintentional data charges - it will not prevent the required data fee from being added to your plan, as Mr. Catfish pointed out--that is based on the ESN and phone type, and the ENv3 requires the data plan now. That's also why it won't be accepted on the pre-paid network.
