port prepaid number to new line on post pay

I have a family member who has had a basic prepaid Verizon phone for a number of years.  I would like to get this family member on a smart phone and add it as a line on my existing shared data plan.  If I were to add a smartphone line to my plan, would we be able to port the existing prepaid number to that line?
