Not receiving international SMS but can send. MMS won't work internationally as well

I correspond occasionally via SMS with a family member in Switzerland.  I live in San Francisco.  Up to November 26, 2022 everything was fine.  The only limitation was that I could not send MMS, a text message with a picture.
However, regular SMS sending and receiving worked fine.

A few days ago December 7 2022 we became aware that any SMS that were sent to me  I no longer received.  After November 26 I still could send however I did not receive any longer any SMS from Switzerland.
I cleared the cache on my Samsung S5 but nothing changed.  My account features are unchanged and for years the same.  I now start to wonder if this is a Verizon mobile server-side issue.  Anyone know what the possible issue is?

We know how important it is to know what is going on with your text messages, and we are here to help. Have you tried making a call, or are you using texts only? Also, is all other texts to others working fine?

Crystal,

my phone works fine except that since November 26 SMS sent from a friend in Switzerland do not appear on my phone. Whereas sending SMS to the recipient in Switzerland apparently are received.Domestically and nationally to seems to be no issue with sending/receiving SMifS.
one other quirky is that on some numbers I call I hear no ring tone while waiting for the recipient to pick up.

Again it is a receiving of international originated text messages i.e. from Switzerland that suddenly stopped on or after November 26.

I strongly believe it's a Verizon provider-side issue or some unintended account misconfiguration as everything else in my phone works.

dorcom,

Thank you for following up with us. We want to get to the bottom of this. Let's gather a few more clues. Are you using the standard messaging application or Verizon Message? Can you send any other international messages?

A: messaging type used irrelevant.  Data is not coming in.  Switching to any other messaging app i.e. standard messaging app I see all but the aforementioned missing are also missing there.

apparently sending SMS to other international recipients does work but I don't know if they reply if I receive it.

Definitely certain is this one aforementioned account from Switzerland from home I do not receive any replies.

PS this particular problem started on November 26 2022.  Before then there where no issue with receiving international SMS*.

* sending international MMS has always been a failure issue.

So much for "we want to get to the bottom of this".

I still have the same problem that I cannot receive SMS from e.g. Switzerland. As mentioned before this problem started suddenly November 26.

The so-called "support" by Verizon is also a joke, just like the convoluted website itself.

I need to have this SMS issue resolved or I will  cancel my account with Verizon and go with another more competent and also definitely less expensive provider!

To send a private message to an agent, click on their username and then click message.
