go into your settings.
click about phone-
click the build number 5 times- this will turn on the developer options.
go back into your settings click develper options (should be green)
turn usb debuggin on.
go to usb configuration- change it from charging to mtp meda trasnfer protocal. I will take about 5 munuets to install the drivers and you will be able to access your s7 edge with your computer.

What version of Windows or Mac is the computer running?

Pugoman, is the phone showing up in Computer Management > Device Manager - under Portable Devices?
If not from within Device Manager go to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and locate USB Mass Storage Device right click on it and go to Properties and try to update the driver, using search automatically for updated driver software. You must have an internet connection to do so.
If the phone is still not recognized the USB cable itself has to be considered. Is it the cable that came with the new phone?

@Pugoman the suggestion from PMccarthy should help with this issue. If is doesn't wecan keep working at this. Have you tried on a different computer? Does anything pop up on the phone when you connect?

The Galaxy S7 is a very nice device. When you have it plugged into your computer, you will need to pull down the notification shade and choose “Touch for other USB options.” Then you can choose which option corresponds with the task you are looking to perform.
