Delay when I can answer a call

I believe this happened after the Oreo update.  Often, when I get a call, I'll hear the ringtone, but there's a significant delay when the screen/widget is presented that I can actually answer the call.  I'm guessing this isn't working as it should.  Has anyone else run into this and found a solution?
