Galaxy S4 support

I bought an S4 several months ago. It's been working fine until this morning when it gave a message saying the sim card failed. Assuming the sim card was bad, I attempted to buy a new one from Verizon. After entering IMEI number it said the S4 wasn't supported. I know Verizon is upgrading their network in a week and some phones will no longer be supported. Is the S4 definitely not going to work in the new network?

The Samsung Galaxy S4 uses the CDMA network to make calls. In order to activate a phone on the Verizon Wireless network now, you need a phone capable of HD Voice or VoLTE calling ability. Neither of which is available on the S4.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I have a Galaxy S5 as well and it has HD Voice. It's activated under Advanced Calling.

We are no longer supporting CDMA-only and 4G non-HD Voice devices. We are moving all devices to our HD Voice LTE network, which offers superior coverage and performance compared to previous generation networks. We are doing this in phases over the next year. We are happy to review your account for compatible equipment options we may have for you. Let us know if you wish to proceed, and we will send a Private Note to proceed further. BrittanyC_VZW

Aquilo55, the Galaxy S4 is a non Voice capable phone and will no longer activate on our network. The S5, is HD Voice capable and will continue to work on the network as well as newer models.
