After the most recent system update, I am unable to assign specific notifications sounds to individual apps. This is for my Galaxy S7 and all apps are up to date.

Please help!!

From what I have read, you will not be able to do this. Horrible update!

Oh, no! We hate to hear that you are having troubles. We want your device to work exactly as it should. Have you provided this feedback to Samsung for them to hear? They should be able to take this feedback in with others to make an update that better fits you.

Hello, we understand how important it is to personalize your device. We have some questions to ask you, do you have an application for ringtones and notifications like Zedge? Have you tried any steps on your device?

marsty,

Having specific notifications on your Galaxy S7 is a great convenience and we're here to do everything we can to find the best workaround. I know how much I rely on the certain sounds to know if I need to even look at my phone or not, so I know where you're coming from. To get to the root of the issue, let's gather some more information first.

What application(s) are you in need of modifying the notifications for? How are you trying to go through and change the settings for individual notifications?

For example, I use Verizon Messages+ for my texting functionality, and I can go into the application and modify each person's notification sound. To do this on your device, check out these steps:

- Open the application.
- On the conversation window tap the conversation you're looking to modify.
- In the right corner tap the three dots. From the drop-down menu, select Customize.
- Scroll down to Tones.
- Choose the tone you want to be assigned to the contact. This will assign the specific tone to that contact.

My apologies for the novel that I wrote, but I wanted to give you an idea of what it would be like to change a similar application. I know I’ve provided a lot of information for your review, does this make sense?

Ryan,

Just tried your method and it worked. This is great for people that I have already texted.

Is it possible to apply this somewhere in contacts (just got the S7, upgraded from S4) so that I can tell where a new text may be coming from?

Thanks,

Emesss1121,

Wonderful and thanks for the update! Let's get his figured out. Please clarify "so that I can tell where a new text may be coming from".

If I understood your question correctly, what I meant was that when someone texts me for the first time, I will get the default ringtone. After I read the text I can then apply a custom ringtone so I can identify the next text I get from that person. Formerly, I was able to assign the custom text tone when I added a contact. Now I have to look at every text with a default tone immediately to see if it is important or not.

I do volunteer work with a number of groups, and I assigned those members distinctive tones for both calls and texts when I added them. Can't think of any good reason why this functionality would be removed.

Gina_VZW, you should have known, but obviously don't, that Oreo eliminated the ability to customize all notifications.
