Why is it neccessary to have another phone line for a watch? Like I don't even know the phone #, It gets its info from my original phone line!
That's a great question. In order to use the watch and all of its features, it uses service. Service needs its own line in order to use NumberSharing. However, NumberSharing makes your watch less expensive than having a separate phone number altogether.
You can also get the watch from other sellers, without the cellular connectivity. While you won’t pay the monthly service fees you won’t be able to use it to connect to your phone unless you can reach Bluetooth or WiFi.
I was wondering this too as was considering one for my Samsung note 10 plus. So as long as I leave my phones bluetooth on I can use it without paying the service fee for connectivity? Mary
That is correct. It also supports WiFi. I have a Samsung active 2 which I recently disconnected but still works fine. Just know that if you don’t have WiFi or Bluetooth you won’t have service.
Just be sure to get it from a different seller because Verizon only sells the ones with cell service. The ones that don’t cost a bit less.
You can definitely use any smartwatch with your phone via Bluetooth. The service fee you mention would be Number Share, which lets the watch act as if it was your phone in that you can text and talk on the watch even if the phone is nowhere nearby. Not using Number Share will let you still have the watch on your account, but it would need a Bluetooth connection to work best with your phone (including talk and text functions). If you wanted to avoid any fees at all with the watch, then purchasing either a non-cellular model or purchasing it at full retail price so that it is not activated on a line of service will keep it entirely Bluetooth-compatible.
Thanks, now I understand.
