My BRAND NEW Note 3 likes to freeze and it randomly plays the notification sound, but when I check the phone it doesn't have anything new. I just got this phone on Friday the 20th. This is my first smart phone in about two years so I'm new to it again. When I ask my friends they say it sounds like my device is defective. Could this be ? Help me please !!

Heathercd10,
The Note 3 is a great device and we definitely don’t want you to have any problems with it. Smartphones are awesome and I’m confident you will love it once we get this out the way. This is certainly something that should not be happening, but there may be a Setting promoting it to do so. Please ensure the notification is not for your emails. While you may hear the notification, you may not see the actual email unless you open the application. Lastly, this may be a symptom of a problem with a bad application; we can know for sure by setting the device in Safe Mode http://vz.to/1a5L1qT . If you find that while in safe mode, this no longer happens, delete all 3rd party apps. You can download them again but take a few hours to test in between. Keep us posted!

If it is any consolation I have had my Note 3 since October and it occasionally does the phantom notification thing. It has done this through two updates now. Not often, but once in a while it will notify and there is nothing new. And occasionally it will not notify when there is something. Again not often enough to be a problem, but once in a while.

Mine does this every few minutes and won't stop.

If it's doing it that often and consistently take it to the store where you bought it and show them what it's doing. You're within the 14 day period, correct?

Yes. That is not something a phone should be doing. Nothing like what mine does. When I said mine does it occasionally, I mean maybe a couple times a week at most. Not alerting when it should is more common, but still only a few days a week. Did not do it for a couple of days, then just missed notifying an email and a text this morning. But what you describe is something the store should replace it for unless you fix it by tracing the cause to a rogue app or something.

Let me save you some aggravation. Take the box and everything back to the store. Do not get another one but pay the $35 restocking fee and either leave verizon wireless as fast as you can because if it should happen on day 15 you are going to be one sorry customer. You can try a different device instead of what you bought, but again its a risk.
They cannot give you any refurbished piece of junk before the 14 day guarantee is ended. After that its one junk after another.
Good Luck
