Is there anyway to undo the Oreo update?

The recent upgrade is a disaster. My media will no longer work in my car through bluetooth,  I no longer see any new emails or message notifications, etc. Is there anyway to undo the system update so I can have my phone back to the way it was?

No. You can't revert to the previous version of the OS.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I’m sorry to learn that you are experiencing issues with your phone after the latest software update, tbognanno. My resources indicate that a factory reset may resolve any post software update issues. This works because a factory reset will resolve any potential system files conflicts created during the software update. You can do a factory reset as per this link (https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-211113/). Make sure to back up all your phone’s content to the Verizon Cloud (https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/how-to-use-verizon-cloud/), or any Cloud service of your choice as a factory reset will delete everything from your phone.

Additionally, the software repair tool listed at this link (https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-update-upgrade-assistant/) may also resolve the issues.

Do you mean to tell me that to get my emails and messages to register on the app I need to reset the phone?

The FDR seems to always be the VZW answer to issues caused by OS updates.  Why is that?  These OS updates shouldn't be so disruptive as to require an FDR to fix the many problems they cause.  But, they are and certainly shouldn't be!

Thank you for the response. My frustration is the same that I am others have – thousand and probably millions. Why do you force these system updates on us knowing that it will cause considerable disruption and then just tell us to do a factory reset? Candidly it would be just be easier to get a new phone and carrier as factory resets wipe out all the customization we have so carefully created on our phones.

By the way, and no surprise here, but the link you supplied for the software repair tool is not functioning. It is useless.

Before you do factory reset, you should troubleshoot the issues to see what might be causing the problem you're having.

We don't want to see you go Tbognanno. Software updates are a necessity that all carriers go through. I can assure you that this is the last thing we want you to experience. We can troubleshoot the device to see if there is anything else we can do but eventually you will need to reset the phone. Resetting your phone is much easier now than ever. You can save your information but you will need to customize it again. Since you have a unique situation it is hard to determine if it was the software update issue or not. The only way to determine this is if you pair it with another vehicle similar to your car features. If it does the same thing then it is an issue with the phone and you can do a hard reset. If the hard reset does not correct the issue then it is a software issue and you do have to wait for your car manufacturer to update their system to be compatible with the new software. Are you able to pair the Bluetooth with another vehicle to test this out?

The issue isn't the car. The problem(s) began immediately after the system update, and other issues with the phone also are occurring, again as a result of the update, even after re-pairing the phone. The bluetooth functionality has changed. It will pair with the car but only work routinely with call audio. Media will work only if you go to the bluetooth settings and then toggle it back and forth many times. Eventually it will stay on but only as long as the car is operating. When you restart, you start all over again. Frustrating and dangerous. Both my Spotify app and message app now show message indicators when there aren't any new messages when this happens and that has nothing to do with car. Checking user sites verifies that Verizon customers are having similar issues with the update. This isnt an issue with my car. Restting the gives me no guarantee that anything will change.

tbognanno, as an Android and iOS user, I do know how frustrating it can be for things not to work like they once did following a major OS update. I've had to update the firmware for Bluetooth speakers, assistive devices as well as take my vehicle into the dealership for updates to its CUE system (which is now done Over The Air) for functions to work as they did before as a result of an update to my phones. At times, issues like the one you're experiencing will solely be a result of that update and it may be necessary for the manufacturer and vehicle maker to work together to get a phone software patch update out to ensure the service is working as it should be. At other times, it may be necessary for the car maker to make sure that whoever it uses for its Bluetooth services to require an update of their own to reestablish the proper connectivity once more. We do recommend advising Samsung of your vehicle's make and model and the Bluetooth service used that way if an update is necessary, they can ensure it's available in a future update for your device.
