Ok my wife had it for 2.99 a month and I just stopped it.My phone didn't have it.So if I upgrade both now they should be free

You will use up your data package faster using basic visual voice mail as it will use Verizon's data channel to work. Your normal voice mail WILL NOT eat into your data and so you can save yourself data and perhaps some added cost. I prefer and use the regular voice mail. I hope this information will help you. No surprises here! The S5 does have the option for Basic Visual Voicemail that is free. The Premium Visual Voicemail that your wife had is still $2.99 and is an option available to you as well, but not required.

And unless I'm wrong it's just TEXT of the voice mail. and text uses so little data it's hardly worth noting. So a 1000 character visual voice mail would use up 1 KB of data so even if you got 30 of these a day that would be 1 MB a month.
