No sound notification for text after KitKat update

I just upgraded to KitKat and I have no sound notification for texts now.
My 'Notifications' is checked under settings.
This might help though. When I go to set the sound for the text notification under 'select ringtone', none of the sounds play when choosing the sound. It's silent whenever I pick a sound.
