Random phone calls?

I have received a handfull of phonecalls with no one on the other end from numbers I do not recognise nor do I have them saved in my contact list. My first immediate thought is telemarketer at first but I always call back as I it could be a potential customer of mine. Quite a few times I have called back the strange number and a very confused/disgruntled stranger answers the phone and tells me they never called me, one lady said she hasn't touched her phone all day and another even told me that she had a missed call from me earlier in the week and SHE was the one calling ME back. This is all very confusing and I would appreciate an explanation as to why this happens.

Could this at all be possibly linked to the "Remote Call" screen that many of us are seeing? Is it possible for someone to use our numbers for phone calls we're not making?

From a very curious, slightly concerned, about to be fed up customer. Thanks.

My guess is that your cellular telephone number is being spoofed by a telemarketer...and...the people receiving the bogus calls are dialing the telephone number they see on their phone's display.

RoosterSchu, I can understand how confusing this would be. We don't want you to be frustrated. Like dexman said, it does sound like someone is spoofing numbers. https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/share-name-id-faqs/#item11 See item 14 for a definition. When did this start? How often does this happen?

I didn't think to check for the permissions granted by some of the apps. I have. I will double check those. Thank you.

I have had a miserable year from March, 2017 until now, March, 2018.  Verizon COULD have easily made it better, but they purposely chose, over and over again, NOT to help me.

I am a 65-year-old woman whose parents died--my mother five years ago and my father, James [removed], one year ago today.  Neither of my parents ever had a cell phone, but years ago, when their great-grandson was dumped on their doorstep, my father got this boy a cell phone.  That phone was in my father's name and he endured financial hardship at the end of his life because this phone was in his name and a credit card was abused and $10,000 that my father did NOT charge was on the card.

At the beginning of last year, this now 23-year-old man bought an I-phone 7 and charged it to this account.  As the administrator of my late father's estate, I have been trying for months to get Verizon to take my parents' names off of this account.  I get my father's mail forwarded to me as the court ordered and the only mail I am still getting that is addressed to him is this Verizon bill that Verizon will NOT take my father's name off of.

This week, I received the latest Verizon bill addressed to my father, I called Verizon customer service, a very nice woman named [removed] told me to do the following:  make copies of the court order that made me the administrator of the estate, make copies of each of my parents' death certificates, go to a Verizon corporate store and Verizon would take my long deceased parents' names off the account.  The people working at the Verizon store on [removed] told me I would have to get the names removed by calling Customer Service---In other words, it was a circle that kept going round and round with absolutely no one helping me.

I am now both physically and mentally exhausted, I don't know anything else to do, and I still don't understand WHY DOES VERIZON HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM WITH STOPPING SENDING ME BILLS IN MY DEAD FATHER'S NAME!!!  If anyone knows how I can get treated with some professionalism and compassion, then I would welcome any responses.

I'm very sorry for your loss, SONYAAGROUNDS. We certainly want to do everything we can to assist you with your father's account so you will no longer receive these bills in the mail. I have sent a private message in order to further assist you. I look forward to your reply.

Why am I not surprised you would send me to a VZW call blocking service for which there is charge?  I'll keep using Hiya.  It's free and works really well.  It even sends texts to unknown or blocked callers telling them to send me text confirming what they want.
