Trying to sync facebook friends/ images with my phone contacts

I have gone thru "accounts" tab in settings and then to facebook where it indicated my device was synced but still contact pictures are not showing up. Any other way to get this accomplished?

Go to Settings

Select Accounts

Select Facebook

If you see "sync is turned off" under your sign-in name, then select your sign-in name

Select the box next to Sync contacts to put a check in it.

This should sync you contacts

Tried that...didn't work. From everything I can read it looks like there is a first step that needs to happen in the ap to begin the syncing process but there is no step in the pre-installed version of the FB ap that lets me go into it to do this. I have tried deleting data from ap hoping it would go into initial set up mode but no dice either.
