Why aren't my notifications showing on the always on display?

I had the note 7 and it would show me my notifications on the always on display.  Had to trade that in now have the s7 edge, it does not show me my notifications on the always on display.  Why?

Is the notifications turned on? To Check:

Go to Settings

Select Display and wallpaper

Select Always on Display

Select Layouts

Make sure that show notifications is turned on

Yes, all is turned on. ... the only notification it will show me on the always on display is messages. I was able to see all on the note.... I don't understand what's different.

I think the note 7 had a updated verision because I have the s7 edge and it only shows missed calls and messages

Verizon,  my show notifications button is permanently grayed out no matter what I do after the nougat update. I cannot find an answer  to this anywhere - no one seems to be responding!

Tylerdurden8us, we want to ensure you can get that show notifications option to appear without issue. I welcome the opportunity to assist. In order for the always on notification to display, the screen lock must be set. The most basic screen lock option is Swipe since it doesn't require any security but with that option set you should see the button you're looking for as being back illuminated and not greyed out. You can change your Screen Lock Type under Lock Screen and Security.
