updating contacts running for 24 hours?

My phone randomly went into updating contacts mode.  I cannot access any of my contact info.

Let's ensure the device is working correctly! Was the data session interrupted when this occurred? Is the issue still persisting? Please restart the phone and attempt the contact sync once more.

What app is syncing contacts?....Google, Verizon Cloud, some other sync account?
