Forum reply login change

Was there some particular reason in changing the way the login works when you select reply to a post in a thread?  - you only get to login if you are not already signed in and the the new way it works is annoying.

Used to be that when not signed in if you selected Reply you got prompted for credentials and when you entered them you got presented with the empty reply page.

Now, after entering your credentials you get bumped back to the main forum page where you have to navigate back to the thread, to the post, to the reply and finally get the blank reply screen
