Audio crackling/distortion issue

I have my FIOS set top box (Arris IPC1100P2) hooked up to my A/V receiver (Yamaha HTR-6030). I'm noticing audio crackling and distortion on many TV channels. This only happens when the set top box is the input. This doesn't happen when my xbox or AppleTV is the input. So it looks to be an issue with the Verizon box. Any ideas on how this can be resolved?
