Last year Center Ice had one measly HD game a night. This year we may get two.
What's up with this? DTV at least half the games or more in HD. It can't be a bandwidth issue. I'm paying the same price for Center Ice as I was with the other guys. What's the problem?
Just like all the cable companies, Verizon gets their feeds for out of market games from iNDemand, which currently only offers 2 HD channels. DirecTV has the luxury of showing all the feeds that they carry around the country, plus feeds from Canada. If iNDemand carried all the games in HD, Verizon wouldn't be able to squeeze them all in right now anyway.
Interesting - I did not know that. It doesn't make me any happier about it, but at least it explains what's going on.
My understanding, from various NHL forums, is that is is up to the carrier (ie verizon) to free up the HD channels for this package. Those in Canada get over 50% of the games in HD on their cable network, so it is not unreasonable to expect Verizon to pick up additional games in HD. If Canadians can do it, why can't FiOs. They are supposed to be the new innovators in the television market...
Verizon still depends on iNDemand to provide the feeds for out of market games, and iNDemand still only offers 2 HD channels for MLB and NHL packages. In Canada, Rogers, Videotron, Telus and other cable companies seem to use different means of delivery for their packages, so they all have varying amounts of HD channels.
When 95% of the games league-wide televised in HD, there is NO excuse for any MLB Extra Innings or NHL Center Ice games to not be shown in HD.
Fios and Center ice is a joke-
Even with the two HD Channels that they have available they at times don't even utilize EITHER of them. Tonite for example. Next year good bye fios, hello direct tv or maybe even GCL. And by the way it shouldn't be up only to the consumer to bring this to indemand's attention- Verizon should have some leverage here.
