Connecting old set top box to new TV

I have a Motorola QIP2500 set top box. I plan on getting a new TV. What is the best way to connect this box to the new TV? Options on the back of the set top box are.... Digital Audio Optical, S-Video, component video cables ( audio = red and white cables,  video= yellow cable), Digital Audio Coax (orange cable)  and the regular coax cable

Thanks for any helpl with this.

I have that STB connected with coax.  Though you could use component.   That is a SD box so it is unlikely you will be able to see a difference in video quality.

You would be better off to replace the box for most new TV's.  Getting a HD box.

Does that box have component?  Or only composite.

For most new TV's

Best to worse

HDMI (not available on that box)

Component (red green blue connectors) for video and red gray audio.  Some may support Optical input, but most don't.  (your stb probably doesn't have component of if it does only supports SD)

svhs for video and red gray for audio (sd picture only)

composite (yellow) for video and red gray for audio

coax connector (from this STB only SD analog service only)

You are correct,. There is no component output on that box, it is composite.

It also has S-video.

This may be an indvidual thing, but on SD I don't think the other connections provide a better picture than coax.  So I stay with the simplest.

Depends on the use.  I have the QIP2500 connected to an HD TV.  But that TV doesn't get much use and the STB is free. I would have to pay to upgrae to an HD STB.
