Connecting sound bar Can I link bar directly to STB or do I have to link to the TV

Have new sound bar. want to connect to TV.  Can I wire to the STB with digital optical cable or must I wire to the back of TV?

Could do it either way. If you wire it to the STB then only it will work with sound bar. If you wire it to the TV then your STB, DVD or anything else you connect to TV will work with the sound bar.
